We perform detailed room-by-room or space-by-space daylight and artificial lighting simulations. The AutoCAD floor plans of the building are inserted into the daylight/ light model and room geometry is replicated. Envelope features like windows, doors, louvers, skylights etc. are modeled as is along with exterior features like overhangs, sun shades, fins, etc. The models are typically run for Equinox and Summer Solstice dates but can be run on any other date as well. The weather file for the project location is utilized. The models are run on clear sky as well as overcast sky conditions.
The isolux contours as well as achieved lux values are developed in a grid format. Based on the achieved lux values we recommend optimization of window and skylight dimensions and locations in order to maximize the amount of daylight achieved in the space. We also perform daylight factor analysis using the model which can be compared to various standards like IESNA /LEED /ECBC and NBC. Our artificial lighting and daylight simulation is also utilized to check the uniformity level of the light in the space which is then used to validate the location and spacing of the light fixtures as well as the distance between them. We use the actual illumination files for the fixtures selected by the design team.
